Lean Process
Lean Goals
3G Graphics Studio utilizes Lean Manufacturing systems and there are four goals:
- Reduce Overall Costs: To reduce cost, a firm must only produce to the demands of the customer. Overproduction increases inventory costs due to the storage needs.
- Reduce Time: Minimizing the time it takes to complete an activity from beginning to end is one of the most effective methods to eliminate waste and reduce costs.
- Quality Improvement: To remain competitive in the current marketplace, a firm must understand its customers’ wants and needs and design processes to meet their requirements and expectations.
- Eliminate waste: Waste is any activity that consumes time, resources, or space but does not add any value to the product or service. There are seven types of waste:
- Waiting (periods of inactivity)
- Defects (do not conform to specifications or expectations)
- Inventory (excess inventory not directly required for current orders)
- Motion (extra steps taken by employees because of inefficient layout)
- Overproduction (occurs when production should have stopped)
- Transport (unnecessary movement of materials)
- Over Processing (rework and reprocessing)
